About

Self Portrait, July 2023

I first fell in love with photography as a teenager, but as I began my undergrad education at San Diego State University I decided to study creative writing. In 2020 I acquired a Minolta X-700, and at this point I rediscovered my passion for photography and got immediately serious about my 35mm format practice.

I became engrossed with analog photography for many reasons. It got me outdoors during a difficult time in my life. Composing each photo forced me to slow down, utilize mindfulness, and operate with careful consideration. For too long my mind was based around words and concepts and ideas, so it was refreshing to incorporate a purely visual language into my way of being. I value photography's blend of analytical knowledge and creative freedom.

I feel most fulfilled doing outdoors portraits, but I also enjoy making images of plants, landscapes, animals, flowers, and buildings. I'm not into street photography, nor am I interested in studio sessions or anything overly orchestrated. I have a preference for a  documentary style. My camera helps me remember people, experiences, places I visit, moments of my life, etc. Think of this website as my visual diary.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about what truth means, in this stupid era of computers and AI. I despise AI. To a much lesser extent, photo editing software also perturbs me. None of my photos have ever been edited with software. All my work here and on my instagram profile are direct scans of my negatives, with no alterations. Some "imperfections" exist in my photos, and that's fine. In fact, I prefer it that way (some of them are so subtle that I'm probably the only person on the planet that can detect them).

Feel free to contact me if you want to book a photoshoot, order prints of my work, go on a photowalk, or any other little thing your heart desires. I can be emailed with the email icon below, or you can DM me on instagram.

I'm based in Brooklyn, NY. Aside from photography, I'm also into: listening to albums on cassette, sunbathing and reading in the park, baseball (go Padres), flavored seltzer water (I have many opinions on the flavors), playing softball, skateboarding, visiting galleries, lounging at the beach, black cold brew or coffee, and karaoke. I hope you enjoy my photos.
